Welcome!

Tomorrow, November 3rd, we are honored to welcome Nick Rabkin, Senior Research Scientist from the University of Chicago, to Indianapolis!

We hope to see you there!

Nick Rabkin and other NORC researchers from the University of Chicago have recently completed a study known as the "Teaching Artists Research Project." The research from this study strives to offer solutions to struggling schools on how to preserve their arts education programs, as well as provide hope for policy- makers who are searching for effective strategies to improve schools.

Rabkin believes that drastic positive changes could be made in schools with the encouragement of Teaching Artists, believing that they are critical to the future of arts education. Teaching artists can be found anywhere-- from large cities to rural communities-- yet, they are still considered to be an "underutilized resource," according to Rabkin.

The NORC developed three strategic objectives in order to gain support to deliver maximum potential of arts education, especially in schools:
  • Expand demand for arts education through advocacy and research.
  • Improve conditions for Teaching Artists and other arts educators to sustain and stabilize the field.
  • Improve the quality and effectiveness of Teaching Artists through professional development built on their best practices.

NORC at the University of Chicago serves the public interest and improves lives through objective social science research that supports informed decision making.
